Implementation Phase:
CLR Instructional Support and Development

There is little more important to a child’s education than their teacher, so the work of becoming a culturally and linguistically responsive teacher is sacred. Although largely pedagogical in focus, the CLR Instructional Support and Development (ISD) supports strides in both mindset and skillset. After the initial professional development with Dr. Hollie, CLR Practitioners meet teachers where they are, with the goal of improving their level of responsiveness by 2-3 levels on our internal metric by the end of three rounds of coaching.

Whether in person or virtual, ISD with CCRTL includes:

• Pre-Assessment - Short teaching observation and team debrief

• Two opportunities for extended teaching observations and individual debriefs

Before and in between advising visits, the cadre will participate in an asynchronous binder study of five sessions, one hour each (see below).

CLR BOOK AND BINDER STUDIES

The intention of this book study is to support a common language and understanding for the basic work of Cultural and Linguistic Responsiveness. Facilitated by a member of the CLR Professional Learning Team. This four-session virtual book study of 90 minutes each supports educators through interactive engagement with and about the text in their understanding of the nuance of the work, developing a common language, considering practical applications and dispelling common misconceptions, all while building a community among the participants. This is an ideal program for any team that wants to “go slow to go fast.” The book study serves full staffs, administrators, equity leaders, curriculum and instruction teams, or any other group looking to learn more. It can be done before or after the Professional Learning series with Dr. Hollie.

The intention of the binder study is to allow participants to work in the community to strengthen their mindset and skillset in the areas of Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Student Engagement. This critical part of the CLR journey is a mandatory component for the Instructional Support and Development (ISD) series, although it can also be done outside of that series in small groups or as a full faculty. This asynchronous program has five, 60-90 minute virtual sessions dedicated to the process.
