The Center's research-based professional development methods encourage and
enhance collegiality and collaboration among teachers. We follow a process
that allows teachers to develop shared expertise and receive personal
feedback and support in developing and refining classroom skills.
Our consultants don't "teach" teachers. Instead, they work side-by-side
with teachers, helping them to engage in regular, reflective
discussions about
classroom instruction. Coaches train teachers in using Culturally
and Linguistically Responsive Instruction (CLR) as a tool to better reach underachieving students.
Coaches help teachers develop the skills and strategies needed for successful
classroom implementation:
- Planning units and lessons that incorporate CLR
- Identifying resources necessary for successful learning activities
- Modeling lessons that infuse strategies and engaging learning strategies
- Reflecting or debriefing on learning activities
The coaching component of CCTRL is a critically important aspect of our professional
development. It provides us with the opportunity to work with the individual
teachers and school cadre members in a one-to-one fashion.
